Class 7 girl goes missing, parents trace online friend & murder him in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Parents of a minor girl were arrested by Borabanda police, on Saturday, for allegedly killing a 24-year-old man in 2023 who they suspected had caused harm to their daughter. They later dumped the body in Nagarjunasagar.
Lured girl with film offer
During investigation police found that the minor had befriended the victim, O Kumar, through social media. He had lured the class 7 girl with promises of giving her an opportunity to act in films.
“Subsequently, without telling her family members the girl met Kumar who allegedly confined her in a room in Yousufguda and attempted to rape her. But she resisted and managed to escape,” said a police official.
She was later spotted by Balanagar police wandering the streets alone and shifted her to a state home. The girl had claimed she was an orphan. Worried by her disappearance, her parents, in the meanwhile, started to scan her tablet and found the details of Kumar.
Drowned body using stone
“They contacted him under some pretext and asked to meet. The duo then attacked him repeatedly when he said that he didn’t know where the minor had gone after leaving his place. Kumar soon succumbed to his injuries,” the cop said. Fearing trouble, the parents then put the body in a car and dumped it in Nagarjunasagar’s left canal. They tied a stone to it so that it would drown.
The case resurfaced three days ago when Kumar’s brother-in-law stumbled upon the former’s auto-rickshaw.
“On March 12, 2023 Kumar’s family had lodged a missing complaint. But we got a lead only recently when his brother-in-law found that his auto – which had some special fittings — was being used by someone else. Using that information, we traced that man using the vehicle. We found that he had replaced the original registration number and replaced it with a fake one,” said a police official from Borabanda.
Girl returns after 6 months
On questioning the driver, police got to know that Kumar had been murdered. They also learned that the minor girl, who was away at the time of the crime, returned home six months after that.
“When somebody approached the home to adopt her, she confessed that she wasn’t an orphan and told them about her parents. She was then subsequently sent home,” the Borabanda police probing the case said.
