Close call on Australia’s NSW beach as plane door lands just metres away from fisherman – Times of India

A plane door plummeted from the sky and landed just metres away from an Australian fisherman in South Broulee Beach, New South Wales. The incident took place around 9.30am on Friday.
Murphy Shaw, a 22-year-old student from Canberra, was surfing nearby when the incident happened. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Murphy described the moment the door began falling down rapidly.“There was a bit of a commotion in the water, and all of a sudden I looked up and saw this door hurtling towards the earth,” Shaw said.
The door, which had detached from a small private aircraft, appeared to be heading straight for the beach, where a lone fisherman stood.
Despite the surfers’ attempts to alert him, the fisherman remained oblivious and continued to cast his line.
“We were like, ‘oh no, it’s headed for that bloke over there,’” Shaw said. The door landed just 20 metres behind the fisherman, who barely reacted to the near miss. “He didn’t duck for cover, he just kept fishing,” Shaw added. “He didn’t really care at all.”
After the door hit the ground with a loud noise, it was soon collected by someone and returned to the nearby Moruya Airport. A Eurobodalla Shire Council spokesperson confirmed that the door had detached from the aircraft, but both the pilot and passenger landed safely.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) received a report of the incident but decided against conducting an investigation as no one was injured in the incident. “It was deemed unlikely it would yield any new safety lessons,” an ATSB spokesperson said.
