Company bans all leaves, including sick days: Social media reacts, 'If you die, you have to…”

A company has announced a complete ban on all employee leave, including sick days, from November 25 through December 31, citing peak business demands during the holiday season.
The policy, shared in a workplace notice, declares “a blackout on vacation days, time off, and there will be no exceptions for calling off, taking sick days” during what the company describes as “our busiest days of the year.” The directive requires “all hands on deck” throughout the period.
The restrictive measure emerged as part of the company’s year-end operations strategy, effectively requiring employees to maintain perfect attendance regardless of health status during the crucial holiday business period.

Reddit post

While companies commonly restrict vacation time during peak seasons, the inclusion of sick leave in the blackout period represents an unusually stringent approach to holiday staffing requirements.
The policy came to light after an employee shared the notice on Reddit, where it generated significant criticism. “Why does corporate think this is ok? God forbid I get sick,” wrote the person who posted the notice under username Goodn00dl3.
Social media responses highlighted concerns about worker wellbeing, with users questioning the policy’s practicality and potential health implications. One commenter sarcastically noted, “If you die, you have to inform management 3 days prior.”
Meanwhile, some users shared contrasting workplace approaches, including a local coffee shop that closes for all of January while continuing to pay employees.
