‘Curious’ kid accidentally breaks 3,500-year-old artifact in Israel’s museum – Times of India

A small boy made a big mess in an Israel museum when he accidentally broke a 3,500-year-old jar, dating back to the Bronze Age.
The museum displayed the jar, dating back to the time of Kings David and Solomon, near the entrance without any protective measures to allow visitors an unobstructed view of the artifact. The boy, curious about the contents of the jar, pulled on it, causing it to fall and break, reported Fox News.
As soon as the jar broke, the museum quickly appointed a conservation specialist to restore the jar, which will be returned to its original location once the restoration process is complete.
Talking about the incident, Lihi Laszlo of the Hecht Museum said, “There are instances where display items are intentionally damaged, and such cases are treated with great severity, including involving the police.”
“In this case, however, this was not the situation,” Laszlo said and added, “The jar was accidentally damaged by a young child visiting the museum, and the response will be accordingly.”
This is not the first time that Israeli museums have experienced incidents resulting in the destruction of valuable artifacts. In October of the previous year, an American tourist allegedly smashed a pair of Roman statues dating back to the 2nd Century at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, as per Fox News.
The tourist claimed that the statues were “against the Torah,” but his lawyer denied that the act was motivated by “religious fanaticism.” The statues depicted Athena, the daughter of Zeus, and a griffin holding the wheel of fate of the Roman god Nemesis.
The police arrested the 40-year-old Jewish American tourist at the scene of the incident.
