Delhi coaching centre deaths: 4 co-owners get bail; asked to deposit Rs 5 crore to Red Cross Society | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Friday granted interim bail to the four co-owners of the basement where three IAS aspirants drowned.
The bail, effective until January 30, 2025, is conditional on the deposit of rs 5 crore to the Red Cross.
The drowning occurred on July 27, 2024, when heavy rains caused flooding in the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar. The victims were Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, and Nevin Delvin (24) from Kerala.
Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma criticised the co-owners—Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Sarbjit Singh—for their role in leasing out the unsafe basement. The court condemned their actions as motivated by greed.
The court has also directed the Delhi Lieutenant Governor to form a committee led by a retired High Court judge. This committee will ensure that coaching centres operate only with proper approvals and in designated areas.
The CBI opposed the bail plea, arguing that the investigation is still in its early stages and that bail should not be granted until independent witnesses are examined.
