PUNE: Indapur police have arrested 26-year-old truck driver Amitkumar Jokulal Patel from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, for ramming his truck into an eatery after being denied service due to his intoxicated condition.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Friday at a restaurant along the Pune–Solapur highway, about 145 kilometers from Pune city. Patel, driving a truck loaded with steel from Hyderabad to Pune, had stopped at the eatery for a meal.
According to Indapur police, the eatery’s manager, Mayur Dudhbhate, filed a complaint later that night.Inspector Suryakant Kokane told TOI, “Dudhbhate was outside the eatery when Patel arrived and tried to enter after parking his truck. Dudhbhate noticed that Patel was heavily intoxicated and unable to walk properly.
He informed Patel that the eatery was serving families and that no alcohol was allowed.”
Despite Patel insisting he was hungry, Dudhbhate refused him entry. Angered, Patel threatened, “Ab Mein Gadi Se Kya Karta Hu, Dikhta Hu Tuze” (I’ll show you what I can do with my vehicle).
Patel then returned to his truck, drove back onto the highway, and re-entered the eatery premises, ramming into the porch, decorations and railings. The incident caused panic among customers and passersby, but no one was injured.
Bystanders apprehended Patel and handed him over to the police.
Patel admitted to consuming alcohol in Solapur before heading to Pune to deliver the steel. He had stopped at the eatery because he was hungry, Kokane added.
