US President-elect Donald Trump slammed Crystal Mangum, who recently confessed that she fabricated the accusations in the Duke Lacrosse case, and said that she destroyed the lives of those three men against whom she filed the rape charge.
A former stripper and convicted murderer Crystal Mangum admitted on Thursday that she lied and “made up a story” that three Duke University lacrosse players raped her at a team party in 2006.
After her confession, Trump took his account on Truth Social and said, “Woman admits to totally fabricating accusations in the horrible Duke Lacrosse Case. She destroyed the lives of these young men.”
Crystal Mangum’s confession
During an appearance on “Let’s Talk with Kat,” hosted by Katerena DePasquale, Mangum stated: “I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn’t, and that was wrong. And I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me.”
The interview was conducted at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, where Mangum is currently imprisoned for a 2013 second-degree murder conviction related to stabbing her boyfriend, CNN reported.

“I made up a story that wasn’t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God,” Mangum acknowledged.
On the podcast, Mangum expressed remorse, stating: “I want them to know that I love them, and they didn’t deserve that, and I hope that they can forgive me.”
This confession arrives nearly 20 years after her initial accusations against former players David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann.
What happened in 2006 case
The accusations led to the players’ arrests and generated extensive media coverage. The university cancelled the team’s 2006 season and dismissed coach Mike Pressler. The district attorney handling the case faced criminal contempt charges and disbarment.
In April 2007, then-Attorney General Roy Cooper, now governor, reviewed and dismissed the case, declaring the three men innocent and stating the charges should never have been filed.

Duke University reached a private settlement with the three players after the charges were dropped.
Durham city officials settled a lawsuit with the men in 2014, agreeing to contribute $50,000 to the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission.
