Vice-president Kamala Harris has been accused of lying about her first job at a McDonald’s by the Republicans claiming that Harris’ McDonald’s stint was not mentioned on her CV that she submitted in 1987 for a job application to the Alameda County district attorney’s office for a position as a law clerk. They claimed none of the third-party biographers wrote about it and she did not speak about it until 2019 when she ran for president.
One in eight Americans work at McDonald’s when they are students and Kamala Harris too had a humble background as she worked in fries and ice cream section and also at the cash, she later told. There were two versions of why she took that summer job: one was to pay her college fees and the revised version was that it was just a summer engagement to earn some money. Harris too said no one was dependent on her McDonald’s earning when she worked at an outlet in California between her freshman and sophomore years at Howard University.

In her 1987 CV, Kamala Harris mentioned several jobs that she did including a month-long clerical job at a stick brokerage. But there was no mention of McDonald’s.
Why does it matter?
Republicans are running a vile campaign against her accusing her of lying and terming it ‘stolen valor’. GOP VP candidate JD Vance accused Kamala Harris’ running mate Tim Walz of stolen valor after Tim implied that he fought in war — which was not true. Coming back to Kamala Harris, it is possible that her 1987 omitted the summer job as it was not relevant to the post that she was applying for — though the experience now matters for the Democrat campaign as Kamala Harris with her humble background of a person who like the majority of Americans worked at McDonalds will have better understanding of the middle class struggle — unlike Donald Trump.
