INDORE: A BMW speeding down the wrong way rammed into two women on a scooter in Indore on Saturday, killing both. Police said the driver was going at a breakneck speed as he did not wish to be late for his friend’s birthday party, reported.
Victims were identified as Diksha Jadaun, 25, and Lakshmi Tomar, 24, who worked with private firms. Accused, Gajendra Pratap Singh, 28, was arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing death by negligence, rash driving and driving in such a rash or negligent manner as to endanger human life.Police said accused jumped out of the car and ran away, leaving the two women critically injured on the road.
The Chandigarh-registered BMW had hit several other people before knocking down the two women, police said. Diksha and Lakshmi were returning home after visiting a fair with friends when the accident occurred in Khajrana area. Eyewitnesses told police that the car lost balance after hitting the women and struck a pole where it finally came to a stop.
Passers-by responded quickly, and the women were taken to two separate hospitals.

Khajrana police seized the BMW and began scanning CCTV footage to identify the driver. Based on surveillance videos, they arrested Gajendra Pratap Singh, a native of Madhav Nagar in Gwalior. An FIR has been registered against him for culpable homicide, causing death by negligence, rash driving and driving in such a rash or negligent manner as to endanger human life.
DCP Abhinay Vishwakarma said that the accused was on his way to a friend’s birthday party with a cake and was getting late when he drove on the wrong side of the road at high speed, causing the accident.
According to the DCP, he said he works as a customer service executive at a BPO in Indore and had purchased the pre-owned luxury car from a friend in Chandigarh on an ‘agreement’ some time ago. He had been driving it in Indore without transferring the registration.
