VARANASI: The plaintiff in the original Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi dispute suit has demanded digging of a trench for an additional survey of the mosque to reach what he referred to as “the sanctum sanctorum of Aadi Vishweshwar temple where a tall Shivling and artesian well are buried under its central dome”.
The litigant, advocate Vijay Shankar Rastogi, in case No.610/1991 Swayambhu Lord Vishweshwar vs Anjuman Intejamia Masajid (Gyanvapi mosque management committee), completed his argument Monday before a fast-track court in support of additional ASI survey of the mosque.
After this, FTC of civil judge Prashant Kumar Singh fixed Aug 21 as next date of hearing and asked AIM to file its reply by then, Rastogi told TOI. Regarding the points he raised during his arguments at FTC, Rastogi, who is contesting as next friend of the deity, said, “During court-mandated survey in suit No. 18/2022 Rakhi Singh and Others vs UP State and Others, ASI had covered only the portion on plot 9130 despite the fact that Gyanvapi mosque exists on three plots – 9130, 9131, and 9132”.
“ASI used ground-penetrating radar and other modern techniques. However, its radar failed to provide tangible results, especially about the garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) of Hindu temple comprising a tall Shivling and artesian well, which is buried under floor beneath the central dome of mosque,” he claimed.
The cellars through which garbhagriha can be accessed are closed with walls, he said, adding that as removing those walls is unsafe for the structure, ASI should reach underground by creating a trench.
