NEW DELHI: BJP MP Phangnon Konyak on Thursday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of misbehaving with her while she, along with other MPs, was protesting below the staircase of the Parliament.
Konyak shot a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and said that the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha “misbehaved with her in a loud voice and his physical proximity to her was so close that I being a lady member felt extremely uncomfortable.”
“I was participating in a peaceful protest against the atrocities committed by the Congress Party against Hon’ble Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar. I was standing just below the staircase of Makar Dwaar with a placard in my hand. The Security Personnel had cordoned and created a passage to the entrance right for the moment of Hon’ble MP’s of other parties,” Konyak said.
“Suddenly, Leader of Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji along-with other Party Members came in front of me despite there being a passage created for them. He misbehaved with me in a loud voice and his physical proximity to me was so close that I being a lady member felt extremely uncomfortable. I stepped aside with heavy heart and denouncing my democratic rights but felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way. I belong to the ST community of Nagaland and I am a lady member. My dignity and self-esteem has been deeply hurt by LoP, Shri Rahul Gandhi ji. Therefore, Hon’ble Chairman sir, I seek your protection,” she added.
This comes after ruckus erupted outside Parliament after BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP, resulting in him getting injured.
Rahul Gandhi responded to the allegations and claimed that BJP MPs were the ones who obstructed and pushed him whilst he was entering the Parliament premises. The incident took place when the protesting INDIA bloc and the BJP MPs came face to face in front of Makar Dwar in Parliament.
The opposition intensified its protest demanding the resignation of Union home minister Amit Shah with protests in the Parliament complex, with posters that read, ‘Main Bhi Ambedkar’, ‘Jai Bhim’ and ‘Amit Shah maafi maango’. Rahul was leading the charge dressed in Blue, a colour associated with BR Ambedkar and staged a walk to the Makar Dar of Parliament.
Amidst the constant sloganeering demanding the resignation of the Union home minister with some INDIA bloc MPs climbing the wall at the Makar Dwar.
Meanwhile the BJP, called the Congress “hypocrites, who murdered democracy” in the country. The party further added that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who “gave cognisance to Ambedkar’s last-mile delivery policy,” and accused the grand old party of “misusing” the name of Ambedkar.
