CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: At a time when doctors are staging protests for their safety in the aftermath of the rape and murder of a medico in Kolkata, a doctor was arrested Tuesday for alleged sexual assault on two women patients at Cuttack‘s govt-run SCB Medical College and Hospital. The survivors are the mother and aunt of a second-year MBBS student.
Police said MBBS students confronted Dilbag Singh Thakkur moments after Sunday’s assault and thrashed him, following which he was admitted to the hospital’s ICU with injuries.Thakkur (32), a native of MP, is a senior resident doctor in the cardiology department pursuing postdoctoral studies. A three-member committee, led by Odisha’s director medical education, has been formed.
Thakkur allegedly raped the patients when they went to him for examination of potential heart-related issues.
