NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has modified the size of the Sharad Pawar faction of NCP‘s symbol – featuring a ‘Man blowing a turha (traditional trumpet)’ – to make it more prominent on electronic voting machines after such a request was made by the party, according to CEC Rajiv Kumar, reports Manash Gohain.
However the Election Commission turned down the demand for removing the ‘Trumpet’ from the list of free symbols from Maharashtra on the grounds that there are no similarities between the two as the shape of Turha and Trumpet are different. Moreover, when NCP-SP proposed ‘Man blowing Turha’ as its choice, ‘Trumpet’ was already in the list of free symbols for Maharashtra.
Earlier this month, the Election Commission had allowed NCP-SP (Sharadchandra Pawar) to accept voluntary contributions from the public, meeting a crucial demand ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls.
