NEW DELHI: Elections to 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats across nine states will be held on September 3, the Election Commission said on Wednesday. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is August 26-27.
Ten of the seats fell vacant after the sitting members, including Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, were elected to the Lok Sabha. Two seats were left vacant after the members resigned.
Out of the 12 seats, 2 each are from Assam, Bihar, and Maharashtra; and 1 each from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana and Odisha.
