JAIPUR: Rajasthan police’s special operations group (SOG) arrested Sunday former Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Ramu Ram Raika for allegedly providing a leaked question paper of the 2021 sub-inspector recruitment exam to his daughter and son, who had “topped” the test.
ADG (SOG) VK Singh said Raika’s daughter Shobha Raika (26) and son Devesh Raika (27) were also arrested, along with three other trainee SIs – Manju Devi (30), Avinash Palsania (28), and Vijendra Kumar (41).”The accused have been sent to police remand till Sept 7,” he said. The role of Raika, who served as an RPSC member from 2018 to 2022, is under the lens, an officer said. RPSC has been under public scrutiny, especially since 2023, when SOG arrested RPSC member B L Katara for his role in leaking the 2022 senior teacher recruitment exam paper.
Before his arrest, Katara was part of the interview panel for the SI exam.
The investigation revealed that several of the arrested trainee SIs, who had secured top ranks in the 2021 exams, performed poorly when asked to reappear for the same test. Shobha, who had ranked fifth, and her brother Devesh, who ranked 40th, are under intensive examination due to their father’s position as an RPSC member during the 2021 exams.
A senior police officer said Shobha, who originally scored 188.68 and 154.84 marks out of 200 in Hindi and general knowledge could only answer 24 questions correctly in Hindi and 34 in GK during the retest.
“Shobha scored 343.52 marks in the written exams and secured the fifth rank in Rajasthan. Yet, she failed miserably in the retest,” the official said.
Further concerns about transparency within the commission arose when it was revealed that Katara was part of the interview panel for Shobha. “Shobha scored 34 marks out of 50 during the interviews, while her brother scored 28,” said an official.
