‘Deep down, I have always been an old school romantic’
Actress Shazahn Padamsee, daughter of Sharon Prabhakar and the late Alyque Padamsee, is engaged. She is slated to tie the knot with businessman Ashish Kanakia (CEO, MovieMax cinemas and Director of Kanakia Group), mid next year. Also known for her singing ability, Shazahn, who has appeared in movies like Rocket Singh starring Ranbir Kapoor and the multi-starrer Housefull 2, spoke to us about this new chapter in her life. We heard that a common friend played cupid, and confirming the same, Shazahn reveals, “Yes, my childhood friend got us to meet and there was an instant attraction. But I didn’t want to rush into it. We finally met a couple of months later for dinner and started dating shortly after that.”
‘Although we come from different backgrounds, our core values are the same’
Talking about what makes them compatible, Shazahn shares, “We laugh a lot together as he has a really fun side, which includes making playful jibes at me which I’ve slowly learnt to accept about him. He is a warm and caring person. Although we come from different backgrounds, our core values are the same. We both have our distinctive traits. Ashish is disciplined and a neatness freak. I am constantly working on my time management issues. He’s also quick to make decisions, whereas I need time. That apart, we also have a lot of similar interests like travelling to new places and going to music festivals all over the world.”

‘I can be my most authentic self with Ashish’
Shazahn felt that there was something special between them since their first meeting. “In today’s fast-moving world, deep down I have always been an old school romantic. When Ashish and I met, both of us were looking for a long-term, stable relationship. From day one, I felt most at peace with him. I feel I can be my most authentic self with him. It is said that when you meet ‘the one’, you will feel peace and not butterflies, and in my case, that’s exactly what happened,” she says.
‘Our diverse worlds always keep things interesting’
Shazahn’s creative pursuits and Ashish’s corporate background, along with their opposite energies, makes this relationship interesting. “Well, one actor in the family is enough! But on a serious note, I always wanted to settle down with someone outside of the film industry. Our diverse worlds always keep things interesting, and we can both keep our work out of our relationship. Ashish comes from a structured corporate background. For me, this was quite new as his week is very routine-oriented. But we both look forward to having fun on the weekends as we have lots of common friends who we love socialising with,” she says.
‘Ashish pulled out all the stops when he proposed to me’
The couple, who will tie the knot mid next year, had an intimate engagement ceremony. “About a month ago, we both told our respective families that we had decided to go ahead. I knew that he was going to propose to me, I just didn’t know when. On November 13, Ashish proposed to me in a private setting with beautiful flower decor and a customised photo wall depicting all our pictures and memories together over the past two and a half years. It was such a beautiful setting. He really pulled out all the stops,” says Shazahn.
