The news that F1 designer Adrian Newey was leaving Red Bull and will be a free agent from 2025 onwards caused a lot of stir in the Formula One grid as all the teams want to get the veteran engineer into their team. Initially the rumors stated that Ferrari were the clear favorites to get the signature of Newey but the rumors soon died down as reports came up that Aston Martin have signed the F1 legend, reportedly in a 100 Million Euro deal.
Recently Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur was asked for an update on the Adrian Newey situation and he answered the question with a Champions League reference.
Making An Example Out Of PSG
While providing an update on the Adrian Newey situation, Fred Vasseur gave the example of football club Paris Saint Germain. He talked about how PSG freely spend money and bring the best talent but are still not able to get their hands on the UEFA Champions League Trophy.
“I have always said that the team comes first. That goes for the engineers, the drivers and everyone. It is not the sum of talents that generates performance but the right combination of factors. PSG has always taken the best, yet they have never won the Champions League. We, on the other hand, are on the right track.”
When asked about whether the team is worth more than the genius of Newey, Vasseur replied with, “Yes, it is a consequence of the budget cap. Before, Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes would spend without limits, now it is not possible and they have to be more efficient. Other teams, on the other hand, are used to moving with reduced resources. This is also a lesson and the result is a championship never seen where eight can win.”
The current F1 season witnessed seven different drivers winning races in the first half of the season and more are expected to win as the second half gets underway.
More Ferrari Wins To Come
Fred Vasseur predicts that more Ferrari wins are to come in the second half of the 2024 Formula One season.
“Sure, when you are two-tenths away, you can’t not expect them. The important thing is not to get emotional. It’s not a drama to finish a GP in sixth place, sometimes it’s just a question of operation and you don’t need revolutions,” said Vasseur.
Ferrari are currently on 63-points behind Red Bull and are hopeful of covering that gap in the last 10 remaining races of the season and hopefully get their hands on the Constructors Title.
