'Finally, the wait is over!': Mohammed Shami's emotional post for fans after taking four wickets in comeback match

NEW DELHI: India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami made a powerful return to competitive cricket, taking four wickets for Bengal in their Ranji Trophy clash against Madhya Pradesh. This performance marked Shami’s first match since India’s 2023 World Cup final against Australia, and he made sure to share his emotions with his fans, dedicating his success to their unwavering support.
Shami, who had been sidelined for almost a year due to an ankle injury, took to Instagram after his brilliant performance, writing, “Finally, the wait is over! After 360 days, I’m back on the field, stronger, and hungrier. 4 wickets for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, and this is just the start. Every delivery, and every wicket is dedicated to You, my incredible fans. Your love fuels my passion.”

His heartfelt post reflected both his determination and gratitude as he embarks on what he hopes will be a memorable season.

The seasoned pacer’s return saw him take 4 for 54, helping Bengal restrict Madhya Pradesh to 161 in their first innings. Shami was ably supported by Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal and Mohammed Kaif, who took two wickets each. Bengal had earlier posted 228, with Shahbaz Ahmed top-scoring with a crucial 92 off 80 balls.
Shami’s return to domestic cricket after his stunning performance in the 2023 World Cup is a promising sign for both Bengal and the Indian national team. The veteran pacer was instrumental during the World Cup, leading the wicket charts with 24 wickets at an average of 10.70.

Mohammed Shami returns, India get boost ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy | BTB Highlights

Unfortunately, Shami’s ankle injury forced him to miss several key series, including India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign in the Caribbean. His absence from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad was also noted, but his recent performance might prompt selectors to reconsider adding him to the squad later in the series.
For Shami, the road ahead is clear—he’s aiming to break back into the national team with major tournaments like the ICC Champions Trophy and the IPL looming. His strong record in Australian conditions (31 wickets in eight Tests) could also make him a valuable asset if recalled for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
