‘Football Should’ve Stopped’: Ancelotti Slams La Liga For Continuing Games Despite 200 People Dying

Spain has been hit with a catastrophe after floods in the town of Paiporta and Valencia  claimed the lives of more than 200 people in the region. This is the worst natural calamity that has struck Spain in more than a decade and has left the country helpless.

Despite the travesty, Spanish football went ahead over the weekend with La Liga not putting a stop to matches. This hasn’t bode well with Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and he has slammed the organisers for being insensitive.

Carlo Ancelotti slams La Liga

Real Madrid’s game against Valencia over the weekend was postponed due to the catastrophic floods claiming Spanish lives. However, other games in La Liga went ahead as scheduled and this did not bode well with Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Carlo Ancelotti in his press conference, ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League encounter against AC Milan on Tuesday, indirectly slammed La Liga and the organisers as he believed football should take a back seat during such times.

“I think football should have stopped the past weekend. Football is something happy, you can’t celebrate when people are not fine. Football should have stopped,” said Carlo Ancelotti in his press conference.

The Italian manager rubbished suggestions that Real Madrid wanted to play over the weekend and maintained that human life is more important than football.

“Playing the past weekend? Nonsense. No one wanted to play. But we aren’t those who decide. Football is not important now. But this is our job, we are professionals,” said Carlo Ancelotti.

Real Madrid look to bounce back

Real Madrid will host AC Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League on Tuesday. The last time Los Blancos stepped out on the football pitch, they were left embarrassed as their eternal rivals Barcelona handed them a 4-0 loss in the El Clasico at home.

Real Madrid are hurt by the result and against AC Milan they would want to right the wrong and bounce back with a strong result.
