CM Mamata Banerjee, who ordered police to ensure a fast-track trial, said the perpetrator of such a “despicable crime” must be “hanged”.
Investigators said the victim, who was cremated in her native place Sunday, provided the evidence they needed against her rapist-killer. “She fought and caused deep injury marks and scratches on the hands of the accused. Based on the forensic medical investigation, the injuries on Roy’s body match the skin and blood samples collected from the nails of the victim,” a police officer said.
The postmortem report states the death was caused by smothering and throttling, and the judicial inquest was wrong in suggesting a collarbone and pelvis fracture.
The SIT intends to meet the forensic team that conducted the postmortem to be sure if the victim’s injuries were caused by Roy alone or if he had an accomplice.
