CHANDIGARH: Former AAP MLA and rights lawyer Harvinder Singh Phoolka announced Saturday his decision to join Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), emphasising the need to restore the party’s core principles and urged others to support its revival through the Akal Takht-directed membership drive. He said he would join as a volunteer without negotiating for any position.
Phoolka’s decision followed the Sikh high priests directing SAD president and ex-Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and others to perform various acts of public penance as punishment or tankhah for religious misconduct. He criticised AAP govt’s handling of the recent attack on Sukhbir at Golden Temple, calling its response “shameful”.
