Judge Roger Arata declared that all hearings would be public, granting the woman’s request for “complete publicity until the end” of the trial, as stated by her lawyer, Stephane Babonneau. Another lawyer, Antoine Camus, acknowledged that the trial would be “a horrible ordeal” for his client, who only discovered the abuse in 2020 and has no memory of it, reported AFP.
The investigation into Dominique P began in September 2020 when he was caught secretly filming under women’s skirts at a shopping center. Police discovered hundreds of images and videos of his unconscious wife on his computer, mostly in the fetal position, allegedly showing dozens of rapes in their home in Mazan, Provence.
Dominique P admitted to giving his wife powerful tranquillizers and recruiting strangers online to have intercourse with her. The abuse began in 2011 near Paris and continued after their move to Mazan. The accused rapists come from various backgrounds, with most participating once, while some took part up to six times.
The husband, who claims he was raped by a male nurse at age nine, is prepared to face his family and wife, according to his lawyer, Beatrice Zavarro. This trial may not be his last, as he has also been charged with a 1991 murder and rape, which he denies, and an attempted rape in 1999, to which he admitted after DNA testing.
Experts have stated that the man does not appear to be mentally ill but has a need to feel “all-powerful” over the female body. The trial is set to conclude on December 20.
