NEW DELHI: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for a three-day visit, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to discuss a wide-range of topics in key areas. Scholz is in India for the 7th Intergovernmental Consultations and the 18th Asia Pacific Conference of German Business (APK 2024).
Scholz and PM Modi will co-chair the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC).The discussions between PM Modi and Scholz will cover defense, trade, and clean energy. They will also review the German-Indian Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP), which was agreed upon in a previous meeting.
The last IGC was held in Berlin in May 2022.
German vice chancellor Robert Habeck earlier said, “The fact that this conference is held at the same time as the Indo-German inter-governmental consultations here at the heart of India is proof of the tremendous importance of the partnership that exists between India and Germany. For decades, our two countries have been working together on the basis of stable trust and mutual consideration. This is a quality that I am very, very grateful for, especially at a time characterized by enormous global challenges. As we are going through them and living with them, the world is changing, not always for the better. Geopolitical tensions are growing, particularly here in the Indian Pacific region, but also Europe. We only need to think of the war of aggression waged by Russia on Ukraine.”
