The Day 4 of Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at Brisbane in Australia was a day of determined fightback for Team India. Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep prevented a likely and embarrassing innings defeat, preventing a follow-on to make the Aussies bat once again on Day five of the Brisbane Test. Tasked with the challenge of avoiding a follow-on and a potential innings defeat, half-centuries from KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, along with partnership between Bumrah and Akash Deep, helped India end day four at 252/9. The crucial knocks gave India a fighting chance in the test, which has been so far affected by consistent rains.
One of the key highlights of the day was the 39-run stand between Bumrah and Akash Deep. “We need to find a way to stay in the game, and I think Akash and Bumrah did that at the end. So it’s a good way to end the day for us. At that stage, I was thinking about going and padding up, perhaps expecting back-to-back innings. I wasn’t sure if they would enforce the follow-on, so I was mentally preparing for my batting. But as I said, it’s always nice to see the bowlers go out there and contribute runs,” said KL Rahul in the post match conference.
Indian cricket fans couldn’t thank crucial runs from Bumrah after he took six for 76 in Australia’s first innings. Joining the ‘gratitude’ Google India too shared an appreciation post for Bumrah, loving called Jassi Bhai.
“I only believe in Jassi Bhai 💪,” reads a post from Google India
The post on X, formerly Twitter, quotes post of a Twitter user named Deepak Kumaar that shared an earlier post match conference video of Jasprit Bumrah with the caption: “name a better comeback than ‘google it’”
When Mohammad Siraj ‘thanked’ Jassi Bhai with tears in eyes
As to how the name ‘Jassi Bhai’ went viral for Bumrah, can’t be really said. However, one of the most memorable mentions of it is from India’s star bowler Mohammad Siraj. After India’s T20 World Cup win in South Africa, Mohammad Siraj with tears in his eyes said: “I knew only Jassi bhai could do it for India, and he did it for us”.
