HARIDWAR: A village head in Nagla Khurd, Bahadrabad Block, was removed from her position for violating the govt’s two-child policy.
The district magistrate initiated an inquiry after receiving a complaint against Reshma, the village head, revealing that her third child was born in Sept 2019. Despite being issued a notice regarding her removal, Reshma did not respond, leading to her official dismissal on Aug 27.
Reshma was elected as the village head in the 2022 Panchayat elections. However, a resident lodged a complaint in Sept 2023, accusing her of violating the two-child policy and submitting false documents regarding her third child. Haridwar DM Dhiraj Singh Garbyal launched an investigation, confirming that her third child was born in Sept 2019.
Reshma requested a fresh inquiry, claiming her third child’s birth date was Feb 2019, but failed to provide valid documentation to support her claim. Following the completion of a seven-day notice period, DM Haridwar ordered her removal from office under the Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj Act 2016, citing her failure to substantiate her claims.
