Haryana Congress Rift Widens as Selja Emerges as CM Face in Posters | Chandigarh News – Times of India

Kumari Selja ‘CM face’ in Haryana Congress posters, rift with Hooda faction widens

CHANDIGARH: The rift between the Bhupinder Singh Hooda and SRB (Sirsa MP Selja, Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala, and former Union minister Birender Singh) factions of the Haryana Congress has widened after the Lok Sabha elections despite encouraging results, and the poster war for chief ministerial face has made it worse.

Selja ‘CM face’ in Cong posters, rift with Hooda faction widens (1) (1).

Seeing the senior Hooda and his son (Lok Sabha MP Deepender Hooda) hold workers’ meetings and run ‘Hisab Do’ campaign with state Congress president Udai Bhan against the state’s BJP govt, Sirsa MP Selja has intensified her Sandesh Yatra.
While team Hooda refrains from commenting against her or her group’s dissenting views, four of the five new MPs of the party from the state — Deepender Hooda, Jai Parkash, Satyapal Brahmchari, and Varun Choudhary — endorse the senior Hooda as their leader.
Selja’s group projects her as CM face in its meetings and has activated its teams in mobilising support for the Congress.
Selja’s team has now released a poster of SRB’s picture with the Congress high command that includes party president Malikkarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha’s leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, and former party president Sonia Gandhi.
It has omitted the names of Hooda, party’s political affairs in-charge for state Deepak Babaria, and Udai Bhan from this poster, but neither the state party leadership nor the AICC in-charge have spoken on it.
Senior members of Selja’s group claim the poster’s design and its projection of Selja as their personal choice. One of them said: “The workers want her to occupy the top post, since a Congress victory is imminent in the assembly elections. We cannot question the workers.”
HPCC president Udai Bhan dismissed the issue, saying: “It doesn’t matter. As long as she works for the party, promotes its symbol, and is loyal to the high command, the ultimate results will favour the Congress.” Selja, Surjwwala, and Birender Singh are Hooda family’s main detractors in the state. The group’s fourth member, Kiran Choudhry, quit the party last month.
