HISAR: The health department appointed an eye surgeon in Hisar whose degree was incomplete, and he performed about 44 eye operations after his appointment. The deputy director of the National Program for the Control of Blindness (NPCB) banned him from performing surgeries. After that, not a single eye operation was performed in Hisar for about four months.
Due to this, surgeries for cataracts, children’s retinopathy, squinting, and other conditions have to be done in Agroha Medical College or private hospitals.
According to the matter, there are three posts for eye surgeons in the eye department of Hisar General Hospital. Three surgeons appointed here resigned and started their services in private hospitals. After the post of surgeon became vacant, the department hurriedly appointed Dr. Vijay, who was doing PG, to the post of eye surgeon in Hisar.
At the same time, Dr. Jyoti, an eye surgeon working in Hansi Civil Hospital, was also on duty in Hisar. After this, under the supervision of Dr. Jyoti, Dr. Vijay started doing eye surgery along with handling OPD.
According to the records, Dr. Jyoti did about 27 operations in four months, while Dr. Vijay did 44 operations. Meanwhile, when NPCB came to know about Dr. Vijay’s degree, they banned him from doing eye surgery.
While interacting with the local media, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sapna Gehlawat said that at present, eye surgery is being done in Agroha Medical College. A letter has been written to the department to appoint an eye surgeon here, she said.
