Haryana mob lynching: Meat sample from migrant worker's house not beef, says police

NEW DELHI: Two months after a migrant worker from West Bengal was allegedly beaten to death in Haryana over the suspicion of consuming beef, police confirmed on Saturday that the meat in question was not beef.
The incident took place in Hansawas Khurd village in Charkhi Dadri district. Sabir Malik, a rag picker, was allegedly beaten by ten people. All ten suspects have been arrested in connection with his death.
Deputy superintendent of police, Badhra (Charkhi Dadri), Bharat Bhushan, stated, “The meat sample from the shanty had been taken and sent for testing to a laboratory in Faridabad. We have received the report which has confirmed that it was not beef.”
Bhushan added, “Soon, we will submit the challan in the court with the report.”
On August 27, Malik was called to a shop supposedly to sell empty plastic bottles. He was then allegedly beaten by the accused. When some bystanders attempted to intervene, the attackers allegedly took Malik to another location and assaulted him again.
The accused have been charged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said.
