There are a few controversies in Indian cricket that refuse to die down and everybody has their own version of it. One such controversy is the Virat Kohli–Gautam Gambhir altercation that happened in IPL 2023. This particular incident started a new rivalry between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Right at the center of the action was former India spinner Amit Mishra who has now narrated what exactly had happened.
Amit Mishra Opens Up On the Naveen-Virat-Gambhir Fight
Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have a lot of history and have seen a lot of ups and downs together. Virat Kohli’s first man of the match in international cricket was handed over by Gautam Gambhir. Both the men from Delhi won India’s second ODI World Cup together in 2011.

But when things started to transcend to the IPL, both the men, who are equally fierce competitors wanted to be on the winning side. Things worsened in the RCB vs LSG IPL 2023 match where an altercation between Virat and Naveen-ul-Haq ended up becoming an ugly spat between Virat and Gambhir. Ex-India spinner Amit Mishra who was playing for LSG has now opened up on the entire incident on a YouTube podcast.
“He started abusing our players, it is beyond me that why did he abuse Kyle Myers, he had no grudges with him. Naveen-ul-Haq was bowling, he would abuse him too. I went and spoke to him that a youngster is bowling to him but he was not ready to listen to me. The thing is that he carried on with this attitude even after the match, that is what disappointed Gambhir and he decided to give it back. The match was done and dusted, and there was no point to carry on with the verbal abuse after that”, said Mishra.
