Loco pilot Arun Kumar saved a teenage girl attempting suicide on railway tracks near Chakia station by applying the emergency brake and seeking local help. The girl was distraught and repeatedly expressed her wish to die but couldn’t provide a reason for her actions.

MOTIHARI: On World Suicide Prevention Day, the quick thinking and heroic actions of a loco pilot, Arun Kumar, saved the life of a teenage girl attempting suicide by lying on the railway tracks on Tuesday. The incident occurred near the outer signal of Chakia railway station on the Muzaffarpur-Narkatiaganj section of the East Central Railway around 7am as the Bapudham Motihari-Patliputra passenger train (15556) was leaving the station.
Spotting the girl lying on the tracks with her school bag, Kumar immediately applied the emergency brake, bringing the train to a halt just in time. “The loco pilot noticed the girl and quickly stopped the train, rushing towards her to prevent the tragedy,” said Dilip Kumar, superintendent of Bapudham Motihari station.
Despite the loco pilot’s attempts to persuade the girl to move, she resisted, repeatedly expressing her wish to die. “The loco pilot tried his best to talk her off the tracks, but she refused to move. He then sought locals’ help. With the assistance of nearby men and women, the girl was forcibly removed from the tracks, allowing the train to proceed,” the station superintendent said.
The girl, visibly distraught, kept repeating, “I want to die”, but could not provide a reason when questioned by onlookers. Locals said a family feud or a love affair might have driven her to the brink. The dramatic rescue quickly became the talk of the town with a video of the episode going viral on various social media platforms.
