Hockey Rankings Updated After Olympics; India Moves Up To 5th In Men’s Category

The newly updated World Hockey rankings were just released as the Olympic games taking place in Paris came to an end. Netherlands won the gold medal in both men and women’s categories during the games taking a double gold home in hockey. This was the first time in Olympics history that the men and women’s teams who won the gold medal were both from the same country, rounding up a historic achievement. India made it a back to back medal finish as they took home the bronze medal in men’s hockey. 

Men’s Rankings

In the men’s rankings, Olympic champions Netherlands take the top spot with 3168 points. They are followed by Germany who took home the silver medal. Germany currently sit with 3035 points. In third place in the men’s rankings is England who finish with 2973 points.

In the fourth position sits Belgium who have a total of 2958 points and are followed by India who gained a spot and came into fifth place from sixth to finish with 2848 points. The sixth, seventh and eighth positions belong to Australia (2714 points), Argentina (2642 points) and Spain (2469 points).

The final two places in the top ten belong to Ireland and France. Ireland come in ninth place in the standings with a total of 2077 points and the hosts of the Olympic games France come in tenth with 2015 points. 

Women’s Rankings 

In the women’s World Hockey rankings, Netherlands tops the table same as the men’s team with 3641 points after winning the gold medal. In second place come Argentina with 3058 points and the last team in the top three is Belgium with 2851 points.

In the fourth and fifth place are Germany and Australia with 2738 and 2720 points respectively. In the sixth place sit China with 2567 points and are followed by England who have 2419 points. 

The final three positions in the top ten go to Spain, India and New Zealand with 2322, 2087 and 2024 points each.
