HYDERABAD: A man was arrested for killing a dog by stabbing it and throwing it from a two-storey building at Jummerath Bazar on Saturday. The accused, identified as Satyanarayana, a daily wage labourer, allegedly acted out of rage after his son was bitten by street dog.
According to police reports, the conflict began when Satyanarayana’s son was outside bursting firecrackers. The dog, agitated by the sound of crackers, bit the boy on the hand. “Upon learning about this, enraged Satyanarayana attacked the dog, leading to its death,” said a police official investigating the case.
In a video recorded by the residents, Satyanarayana, brandished a stick and threatened a bystander who questioned his actions. Despite attempts by others to intervene, he defended his behaviour, claiming it was in response to his child’s injury.
The boy received treatment for his bite and scratch wounds and is reported to be stable. Satyanarayana lives with his wife and two sons in the building where the dog’s remains were discovered. After the incident, he disposed of the carcass of the dog in Musi river, where it was later retrieved by police for a post-mortem examination.
Shainayath Gunj police have registered a case against Satyanarayana under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Mischief by killing or maiming animal). Police officials indicated that additional charges related to the assault on bystanders may be pursued following further complaints.
