Ahead of the start of the much-awaited Border Gavaskar Trophy, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir held a press conference and addressed many pressing queries put forward by the media about the upcoming India vs Australia series. During the presser, Ricky Ponting’s recent comments on Virat Kohli were also raised. Paying heed to it, Gambhir snapped at it and suggested the former Australia captain to focus on the affairs related to the Australian team.
Brad Haddin Decodes Reason Behind Gautam Gambhir’s Fiery Answer
Gautam Gambhir’s comments were noted by Ricky Ponting, who called the former Indian opener a “prickly character.” Laying weight on the indirect back and forth between Gambhir and Ponting, former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin has come out with a contemplation regarding Gambhir’s reaction.
Haddin seconded Ponting by stating that Gambhir’s reaction was indeed “prickly”, and elaborated that the response was a result of his “us versus them” mentality. According to Haddin, Gambhir as a leader likes to come in support of his players and Ponting’s comments ignited his, us against them character.
“Gambhir is a character that would use this as an us versus them mentality. And you expect your coach to stick up for the players. His reaction was prickly there, and you don’t need your coach to get caught up in that sort of scenario unless his tactics is to build an us versus them. I know what the backstory. I’ll tell you; just wait till later of the week. There was a little elbow, suspensions and fines.” Haddin told LiSTNR Podcast.

Tough Road Ahead For Team India
After enduring a humiliating 0-3 defeat at home at the hands of New Zealand, Team India would have to quickly brush aside the stains of defeat and look forward to the daunting challenge that is standing tall in the form of Australia. A set of 5 Tests have been scheduled down under, and the stakes are high, as the valuable WTC Final spot is hanging. Having lost at home against the Kiwis, Team India would have to pull off what has never happened before, beating Australia in Australia at least with a score line of 4-0.
