Saba Karim Not Impressed With Shubman Gill’s Batting

Former chief selector Saba Karim paid heed to Shubman Gill’s performance against Zimbabwe in the recently concluded series. Karim judged Gill’s gig under two heads, batting and captaincy. According to Karim, Gill failed to present consistency with the bat, however displayed that he has the right chops of leadership.

“Shubman Gill as a captain and a batter. I was expecting a little more consistency in Shubman Gill’s batting. That was a little lacking. However, he performed fantastically as a captain. Pressure mounts on any captain after losing the first match, and that too a young captain,” Karim said on Sony Sports.

In a bowling-dominated series, Shubman Gill was the leading run-scorer with 170 runs in 5 innings. Despite that, he failed to deliver the kind of performance that fans expect from him.

Heaps Praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal

The former wicketkeeper batter also showered praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal for picking up good form right from the first match he played in the series despite joining the team mid-tour.

“However, despite that, he got his players to rally splendidly. Jaiswal scoring runs. He didn’t get a chance in the World Cup. When you haven’t batted for a long time and haven’t played matches, it’s not easy to show form as soon as you come. However, we saw that,” Saba Karim elaborated.

With the end of the Zimbabwe tour, Team India will next take on Sri Lanka, where new coach Gautam Gambhir will join the unit and showcase the direction towards a potential glorious future.
