‘I won’t do much..’: Rohit Sharma Addresses Collective Batting Failure In Excruciating Loss to NZ

New Zealand have put an end to Team India’s home domination in Tests. Spirited Kiwis did not bog down by the spin challenge that India have so often used to down its opponents, but rather utilised the conditions to their avail. Team India was left befuddled by the variations that Mitchell Santner produced in both innings and thus lost the 2nd Test in Pune by a striking margin of 113 runs. The victory has given New Zealand an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, marking India’s first Test series loss at home turf in as many as twelve years.

Rohit Sharma Did Not Cast Doubt On Batters’ Ability Following Defeat

It was a complete batting failure for India as Rohit Sharma’s men left yearning for partnerships in both innings. Much like Washington Sundar, who made an incredible comeback in the Test circuit, Mitchell Santner stepped for New Zealand, picking a 7-for in the first innings and a 6-wicket haul in the second. Indian batters had no answers to the turn that Santner was generating and hence the cumulative fiasco ensued. Following the loss, Team India along with coach Gautam Gambhir is receiving flak from fans on social media.

Following the culmination of the India vs New Zealand 2nd Test, captain Rohit Sharma was asked to put forth the thoughts behind the excruciating defeat. Despite enduring the setback, skipper Sharma chose not to place batters under the cosh for the series defeat against New Zealand but reminded them that they need to “trust their plans” to succeed against tough opponents.

New Zealand outclassed India by 113 runs in the second Test to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series.

This was India’s first Test series defeat at home since 2012-13 when they went down to England 1-2.

“I do not doubt anyone’s ability. I won’t do much postmortem of this, but batters must come with their plans and trust on the plans like New Zealand batters showed,” Rohit said during the post-match press conference.
