ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: India Can Qualify For Semi-Finals With Net Run rate Coming Into Play

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. have had a bittersweet World Cup so far. After sustaining a shocking loss at the hands of New Zealand Women, aka the ‘White Ferns’, India returned back to winning ways after decimating Pakistan in Dubai. This was also India’s 25th win against Pakistan in all the World Cups combined. India still do not have a very healthy run rate and they had the chance to improve it against Pakistan which they failed to do.

India’s T20 World Cup Semi-Final Qualification Scenarios

India have played two matches so far in the Women’s T20 World Cup and have two fixtures remaining, one against Sri Lanka and the other against the defending champions Australia. In their two completed matches, India have won one and have lost one. With two points from two games, India currently have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -1.217.

If India are to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 Cup, they’ll have to win their remaining two group stage games. This will strengthen their chances of securing a berth in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup . The format of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is such that only the top two teams from both the groups progress into the semis.

If Pakistan win only one of their remaining two games and if New Zealand defeat Australia, India can still make it to the semi-finals with a maximum of six points. This is when the Net Run rate (NRR) comes into play, an aspect that India will look to improve in their remaining two fixtures.

India Decimate Arch-Rivals Pakistan

Be it in any World Cup of any format, India have always had the upper hand on Pakistan . India and Pakistan have clashed in eight Women’s T20 World Cup matches with India winning six of them. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first in Dubai. Courtesy of a splendid bowling effort by India, Pakistan could only register 105 runs in their quota of 20 odd overs.

India’s Arundhati Reddy was absolutely spot on with the ball as she took 3 wickets and conceded just 189 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur were India’s star with the bat. Rodrigues scored 23 off 28 deliveries, whereas Harmanpreet scored 29 off 24 deliveries which helped India register their first victory in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup .
