India aims to become global hub for green hydrogen, says PM Modi | India News – Times of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called on the global scientific community to help shape policies for the green hydrogen sector at the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen.
Addressing the summit, PM Modi said, “I urge the global scientific community to come together to explore various aspects. Scientists and innovators can suggest changes in public policy to help the green hydrogen sector. We want to make India a global hub for the production, utilisation and export of Green Hydrogen.”
PM Modi said, India was the first among G-20 nations to meet its Paris Agreement commitments on green energy, achieving this nine years ahead of the 2030 target. “India’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity increased by nearly 300 per cent in the last ten years. Our solar energy capacity surged by over three thousand per cent in the same period. But we are not resting on these acts. We remain focused on strengthening existing solutions,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister also higlighted the benefits of green hydrogen, particularly in decarbonising sectors difficult to electrify, such as refineries, fertilisers, steel, and heavy-duty transport. He mentioned India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to drive innovation, infrastructure, and investment in the sector.
Union minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, said that India’s natural advantages in green hydrogen production due to its low-cost solar energy and strong power grid.
“India’s installed solar capacity has increased by 32 times from 2.6 GW in 2014 to 85.5 GW. The country also boasts one of the largest synchronous grids, capable of handling intermittent renewable energy. India is poised to lead the global green energy demand with rising domestic demand across diverse sectors,” Puri said.
Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi said, “India is moving to become a key global player in the green hydrogen market, that is why we launched the Green Hydrogen mission. Integrating green hydrogen into India’s energy mix and industrial processes will enhance our global positioning and achieve environmental and social goals”, as he underscored green hydrogen as key component to sustainability.
