‘India is proud and delighted’: PM Modi on India’s record-breaking performance at Paris Paralympics | Paris Paralympics News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India has achieved a historic milestone at the Paris Paralympics 2024, surpassing its previous best medal haul of 19 from the Tokyo 2020 Games. As of now, the Indian contingent has secured an impressive 21 medals, comprising 3 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze, with potential for further additions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the athletes’ “dedication, passion and determination” in a message on social media platform X, celebrating their record-breaking achievement.
“India is proud and delighted! Our incredible Paralympic contingent has set a record for the highest-ever medals for our country in any Paralympics. This shows the dedication, passion and determination of our athletes. Congrats to each and every player,” Modi wrote.

Avani Lekhara secured India’s first gold medal with a record-breaking performance in the women’s 10m air rifle, while Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis clinched silver and bronze respectively in the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol events.
Sumit Antil defended his Paralympic title in the men’s javelin throw F64 with another record-breaking performance. Nishad Kumar secured silver in the men’s high jump T47, while Yogesh Kathuniya claimed silver in the men’s discus throw F56. Preeti Pal bagged bronze in both the women’s 100m and 200m T35 events.
Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu achieved a double podium finish, securing silver and bronze respectively in the men’s high jump T6 final. Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar mirrored this feat in the men’s javelin throw F46, winning silver and bronze respectively. Deepthi Jeevanji added another bronze to India’s tally in the women’s 400m T20 final.
Nitesh Kumar clinched gold in the men’s singles SL3 category, while Thulasimathi Murugesan secured silver in the women’s singles SU5. Manisha Ramadass added another bronze to India’s medal tally in the women’s singles SU5. Nithya Sre Sivan won bronze in the women’s SH6 category.
Sachin Khilari bagged silver in the men’s shot put F46 final. The archery duo of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won bronze in the mixed team compound event.
