KURUKSHETRA: A 23-year-old woman of Kurukshetra’s Thaska Miraji village was allegedly murdered by miscreants at her rented accommodation in Surrey’s Guildford area in Canada on December 14, leaving her parents in shock and aggrieve in India.
The deceased woman has been identified as Simranjit Kaur, who went to Canada on study visa and she was studying business management. The case is now being investigated by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team of Canadian police.
As per the information, Simranjit and some other Indian students lived in a shared rented accommodation in Guildford area of Surrey. The incident took place in the wee hours on December 14, when some miscreants entered the accommodation of the Indian female students and attacked two of them with sharp-edged weapons. Simranjit succumbed to the stabbing injuries while another Indian student, whose identity is yet to be ascertained is hospitalized in serious condition.
Simranjit belonged to a middle-class family and her parents are in shock. Thaska Miraji village panchayat has urged Haryana government to support the family in this aggrieved situation.
Dilbagh Singh Goraya, ex-Sarpanch of Thaska Miraji village, who lives in the neighbourhood of Simranjit’s house here said, “Simranjit was studying in the last semester of her business management course. The family is now financially weak as they have invested everything for a better future for their children by sending them abroad, but this incident has left them shattered. Simranjit’s younger brother was also recently sent to the USA by the family. We are in talks with some local social and religious bodies in Canada and making efforts to bring the body to India, so that the cremation could be done here. The government should support the family to bring Simanjit’s body to India.”
Meena Kumari, incumbent Sarpanch of Thaska Miraji village said, “It has come to our notice that Simranjit Kaur daughter of Bagicha Singh of our village, who belonged to a middle-class family has died recently. She went there on a study visa. In this aggrieved time, our entire village stands firmly with this family. We appeal to the Haryana government to extend whatever possible support to this family.”
