IPL Franchises Demand Change In Mega Auction Rules
Whenever a mega auction comes by, it changes the entire scenario of the IPL with teams building themselves from scratch. The last mega auctions were held in 2022 with two teams (Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants) making their debut in the IPL. What has been surprising is the fact that just in three years the IPL governing council is organizing another mega auctions which has sparked a bit of unrest in the franchises.

According to a report published in ESPNCricinfo, the franchise owners have suggested the governing body to conduct a mega auction only once in five years and allow them to retain four to six players ahead of the auction. The franchises have also suggested that they’d like to have eight right-to-match (RTM) options. Reportedly, these are some of the suggestions that the IPL franchises have shared with the governing body. As of now nothing stands confirmed and these suggestions will be taken into consideration once the IPL officials meet the franchises.

Changes In The RTM rule?
In addition to all the suggestions, the franchises have also asked the governing bodies to allow them to work directly with its players to renegotiate salaries between mega auctions. It is believed that this move intends at the franchises trying to retain their core and reach better terms with players who were bought at base price. There might be some notable changes in the RTM rule too. The rule which was introduced in 2018 saw maximum of five players to be retained by each team but now the franchises reportedly want a change to this rule too.
