IPL Retention 2024: Punjab Kings Reveal Their First ‘MASSIVE’ Pick Ahead Of IPL Mega Auctions

IPL Retention 2024: Just like many other franchises, Punjab Kings are on the hunt to build a team for themselves that will remain stable and hopefully win them atleast one championship in the next three years. Earlier this year Punjab Kings announced former Australia captain and three-time ODI World Cup winner Ricky Ponting as their main man, their Head Coach. As the retention deadline draws closer, PBKS certainly are mulling over their combinations.

Punjab Kings Tease Fans With First Retention

Punjab Kings have had their fair share of problems in the past with constant change in their management and their leadership groups. They had a dream season in 2014 and that was the only time that they played the IPL finals. Since then, Punjab have never been the same and more often than not, they fail to qualify for the playoffs.

Punjab experienced contrasting change of fortunes in IPL 2024. They chased down the highest total ever in the history of IPL (262) against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders , but they failed to qualify for the playoffs. Amid all the buzz surrounding IPL retentions, Punjab have teased the fans with their first pick of the upcoming season.

Here’s What PBKS Posted

Punjab Kings have roped in former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting as their Head Coach. As far as Ponting’s credential as a player are, he has won the ODI World Cup three times and has a proven track record as a coach. Under Ponting, Delhi Capitals came extremely close to winning an IPL title in 2019. With Ponting as their main man, Punjab will hope that their fortunes change and they get their hands on the coveted IPL Trophy.

Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer On Punjab Kings’ Radar?

If reports are to be believed then both Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant will not be retained by their respective franchises Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Now, both Pant and Iyer have enjoyed some fantastic working relationship with Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Punjab Kings. The PBKS franchise is in a dire need of a captain and hence, either of Iyer or Pant might be on PBKS’s radar.
