KL Rahul‘s ‘IPL’ question leaves Rohit Sharma shocked
The ball appeared to have brushed something on its way to keeper KL Rahul as Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka attempted a flick shot. The Indian players erupted in a huge appeal, but the umpire shook his head and surprisingly signalled a wide. This sparked a lively discussion among the Indian cricketers.
“IPL wala hai kya? IPL wala rule hai kya? Kya wide challenge kar sakte hai? IPL main wide bach jata hai na isiliye puch raha hai,” KL Rahul innocently asked, referencing the IPL’s provision for challenging wide calls.
Rohit Sharma, clearly taken aback by KL Rahul‘s query, responded, “Tum ko toh ye bolna chahie ki bat dur hai ya pad dur hai. Bat agar dur hai toh who bol raha hai 100% awaz aya.” (You should be saying whether the bat is far or the pad is far. If the bat is far, then someone is saying there’s definitely a sound.)
India restricted Sri Lanka to a score of 230/8 in 50 overs thanks to some good bowling from both pacers and spinners. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel picked up two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar took one wicket each. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the batting for India and provided a solid start.
