Varun Chakaravarthy Reveals How He Pulled Off A Successful Return To Team India

During an appearance on JioCinema, Varun Chakaravarthy opened up on the steps he took to ensure a return to Team India. Throughout his three-year hiatus, the spinner revealed that he had to bring out the drawing board and check his performance, where he noticed that his orthodox side-spin wasn’t working at higher levels. He had to entirely change his bowling.

“I had to go to the drawing board and check out all my videos. I figured out that I was bowling side spin and it was not working out in the higher levels. I had to change everything about my bowling. It took me two years and I started bowling in the local leagues and IPL also. It worked there and I have started bowling it in the international stage and it’s working out for me,” Varun Chakaravarthy said to JioCinema.

Varun, the 33-year-old mystery spinner recorded his career-best figures of 5 for 17 in Sunday’s second T20I against South Africa. But Chakaravarthy’s spectacular efforts could not prevent Team India from losing by three wickets to South Africa in the 2nd T20I match in Gqeberha.

Chakaravarthy was dropped from the Indian team after going wicketless in the 2021 World Cup, but he regained his place after impressive performances for the Kolkata Knight Riders  in the last two IPL seasons. He took 20 wickets in the IPL 2023 and finished as the second-highest wicket-taker this year.
