‘It Will Inspire Youngsters’: PM Modi Heaps Praise On Arjun Erigaisi After Reaching 2800 Rating Mark

Arjun Erigaisi Surpasses Historic 2800 Rating Mark in Live Chess, PM Modi Acknowledges His Efforts

Arjun Erigaisi reached the historic milestone of surpassing the 2800 Elo Rating Mark in live chess ratings. He achieved the feat at the 2024 European Chess Club Cup while representing Team Alkaloid. With this victory, Erigaisi also became the third-ranked player in the world, one of only 16 chess players ever to reach this ranking. PM Modi acknowledged Erigaisi’s greatness As he expressed hope that his success would inspire young Indians to take up chess and strive for international recognition.

Erigaisi, the 21-year-old Indian chess grandmaster is now the second-only Indian player after Viswanathan Anand to surpass the coveted milestone. He is also the youngest Indian player to do so. The Indian grandmaster has put himself to the level of France’s Alireza Firouzja and five-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen, who hold the number one and two spot as the youngest to go past the 2800 rating mark.

Arjun Erigaisi’s brilliance will soon establish himself as one of India’s leading talents in chess, whose impressive performance will inspire young kids to take up the sport in the future.
