Italy’s Monreale Cathedral’s stunning mosaics regain golden lustre

Due to water damage, the glass tiles of the mosaics required restoration, with regional authorities estimating the project to cost 1.1 million euros ($1.23 million), funded by the European Union. The scaffolding used for the restoration is expected to be fully removed by mid-October, while the new lighting, provided by the Austrian company Zumtobel, is currently undergoing testing and is scheduled for inauguration in late November.
