‘It’s not a perfect world’: Supreme Court rejects plea to postpone NEET-PG examination | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday, dismissed a petition seeking postponement of the NEET-PG examination, scheduled for August 11.
The petitioners argued that the allocated exam cities pose significant inconvenience for them to reach. However, a bench consisting of Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra stated that they cannot jeopardize the careers of two lakh students for the sake of five students.
“How can we postpone such an exam.Mr Sanjay Hegde, nowadays people just come asking to postpone the exam. It’s not a perfect world. We are not academic experts. As a matter of principle, we will not reschedule the exam. There are two lakh students and four lakh parents who will weep over the weekend if we postpone it. We cannot put the careers of so many candidates in jeopardy. We do not know who is behind these petitions,” the bench said.
Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioners, argued that rescheduling the NEET-PG is necessary due to the scheduling of one exam in the morning and another in the afternoon. The petition highlighted that many candidates have been assigned cities that are highly inconvenient for them to reach.
The test cities were announced on July 31, while the specific centres will be revealed on August 8.
Initially, the exam was scheduled for June 23. However, the Union health ministry decided to postpone it as a precautionary measure in light of alleged irregularities in certain other competitive examinations.
