Sydney Thomas, a 20-year-old model and University of Alabama student, has quickly become an internet sensation following her appearance as a ring girl during the highly-anticipated Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight that was livestreamed on Netflix. The event, which took place at AT&T Stadium on November 15, drew a massive audience of 72,300 fans and millions more streaming on Netflix.
Thomas expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she’s received on social media. “I woke up to an overwhelming amount of love and support from all of you,” she wrote in a Story on Instagram. “I can’t thank you guys enough or begin to express how grateful I am. I love you all – thank you for your kind words.”
She posted a TikTok video on Saturday addressing the flood of attention she’s received. “Im happy you guys enjoyed the broadcast!!” Thomas captioned the post, with a crying laughing emoji and heart emoji added to the end.
The video itself had a caption that read: “waking up to see i’m trending for the tyson v paul fight.”
Netflix announced that 60 million users tuned in to watch the bout, and the gate (the amount of money generated from ticket sales) surpassed $17.8 million. The amount is said to be the biggest boxing gate outside of Las Vegas in the US history as 72,300 fans packed into the home of the Cowboys.
The fight itself, though lacking in significant action, was a commercial success, generating over $17.8 million in ticket sales. Tyson, 58, faced off against 27-year-old Paul in his first officially sanctioned professional boxing match in 19 years.
Joining Thomas as ring girls for the event were Raphaela Milagres, Virginia Sanhouse, Delia Sylvain, and Lexi Williams.
