CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The Jalna Shri Ganesh Mahasangh has introduced a significant initiative during this year’s Ganesh festival, telling all 495 registered Ganesh mandals in Jalna to recite the Preamble of the Constitution after every aarti.
This move is aimed at promoting unity and harmony in a diverse society. The idea has gained momentum across the region.
The proposal was put forth by Mahesh Dhannavat, working president of the Mahasangh and a practising lawyer.
“If all citizens start following the Constitution religiously, then differences among people would disappear,” Dhannavat said.
He also gave a reference to the historical roots of Ganeshotsav, which was popularised by freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak to unite people during India’s freedom struggle. According to him, this initiative can bring back that spirit of togetherness.
Last year, Dhannavat distributed copies of the Preamble to all Ganesh mandals in Jalna and encouraged them to display it at their venues. This year, the Mahasangh decided to tell mandals to recite the Preamble as it would have a more powerful impact rather than just displaying it.
Ashok Pangarkar, Mahasangh president, expressed hope that this practice would not only unite citizens but also spread across the country. “We take pride in being the first to start this initiative,” Pangarkar said.
Mahasangh general secretary Parasnand Yadav echoed similar sentiments.
The initiative has received widespread support, with politicians across party lines participating in the preamble reading on the first day of the festival.
Jalna MLA Kailash Gorantyal said the idea will introduce the Constitution to people and help them understand the idea of India.
