Japan on high alert as Typhoon Shanshan nears with torrential rain and gusty winds – Times of India

Japan is bracing for Typhoon Shanshan, which is forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds, forcing airlines and railways to pre-emptively cancel services over the coming days. According to Reuters news agency, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned of severe weather conditions as the typhoon approaches the country.
Shanshan is expected to make landfall on Japan’s southwestern Kyushu island in the coming days, with the JMA considering issuing a special warning for Kagoshima prefecture.”Maximum caution is required given that forecasts are for strong winds, high waves and high tides that have not been seen thus far,” JMA said.
The typhoon is expected to advance toward Japan’s central and eastern regions, including Tokyo, by the weekend.
In response to the upcoming storm, All Nippon Airways (ANA), a major airline in Japan, has announced the cancellation of 110 domestic flights scheduled for Wednesday. This cancellation affected around 4,200 passengers. Japan Airlines is set to cancel 80 domestic flights from Wednesday through Friday. Additionally, according to Japan Broadcasting Corporation reports, some Shinkansen bullet train services in the region are expected to be suspended on Wednesday and Thursday.
As Typhoon Shanshan approaches, Japan remains on high alert. Authorities are urging residents and tourists to take necessary precautions.
