NEW DELHI: With the intent to seek a timeline for early statehood restoration, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdulla met Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday. Abdullah met Shah for the second time after he took over as the chief minister of the union territory and discussed a range of key issues.
Abdullah maintains a positive outlook for the early restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and anticipates establishing a possible timeline.
Apart from this, he also sought clarification on the Transaction of Business Rules (TBR) to understand the authority of the elected government across various departments.
Earlier on Wednesday, he asserted that there are various issues which need a discussion with the Union home minister.
“There are a lot of issues on which I need to talk with the home minister. Currently, J&K is a UT and we are expecting statehood. The home minister has a different role in the UT,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the 18th Annual Tourism Summit 2024 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Previously, he held a discussion with Shah on October 23 during his first visit to New Delhi after assuming office on October 16.
Officials indicated that while the earlier meeting was primarily a formal introduction, Abdullah briefed the Union home minister about the current situation and addressed the statehood restoration matter.
